DURING morning worship one Sunday I observed the way that the sunbeams passing through a high window lit up the opposite wall. Since the window is decorated with a cross, the shadow of a cross was visible on the wall. Suddenly a cloud obscured the sun, and the cross disappeared.

As I sat there and looked at the empty wall, the cloud passed by and the cross was again visible as clearly and plainly as before.

This incident caused me to think about our walk through life. Sometimes God’s presence can be obscured, as a cloud hides the sun. Bad things happen. We encounter problems. Then, suddenly, something different happens. We read a passage from the Bible; someone encourages us, or a problem gets solved. The cloud has passed by, and we can again sense the light of God.

Dear God, thank you for your love. Help us to remember that even when our path is dark, you are still with us. Amen.
